Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)
About
The Creator
In 2006 I graduated from a 4-year Design course, which included Product, Graphic and Multimedia Design.
From 2004 to the beginning of 2007 I worked for a company, Z80 Software, that developed games and other applications for cell phones.
During the first semester of 2007 I worked with electronic publishing, but after July I started giving design classes and working as a freelancer with an architect.
I’ve lived my entire life in Brazil and I’ll probably continue here for at least the next couple of years.

TEOM
The End Of Magic, a.k.a. TEOM, was created in 2001. At the very beginning all the site offered were tutorials for Paint Shop Pro 7.
It took me probably about a year – or even more – to start offering files for download. My gradient pack (today with 180 gradients) is quite a success.
Paint Shop Pro 9 made a brief appearance here, but in the end I upgraded to X. My older version, 7, has been fully retired.
Since I also discovered that I’m addicted to Illustrator, I decided to write tutorials for this program as well. Obviously there’s no direct connection between what is now a Corel application and a wonderful software from Adobe, but to be quite honest I don’t mind.
For some time I also wrote tutorials for XHTML and CSS, but since I don’t give them much attention I retired them as well. I figured that it is much better to keep focused on graphic applications ;)

The Name
The real story is rather silly so I’m going to try to entertain you a bit with a nicer version =)
Whenever I look at something that I don’t know how is done or how it is even possible for it to work, I think that there has to be a little bit of magic involved.
But if I’m not a magician, how can I create/recreate something that amazes me? Or, to step a little bit further, something that amazes other people?
To create magic one has to understand magic – and once it is understood it stops being magic and becomes a logical process.
A tutorial, for anything that matters, is nothing more than a logical (although some might argue about how logical some tutorials really are =D) explanation as to how to create something.
Since this site is about providing tutorials to teach people how to achieve certain effects or just how to manage the program(s) they are using, it means that what was perceived as magic at first isn’t that magical anymore, which, in just a few words, means “the end of magic”.
It isn’t about a tragedy, about magic disappearing, it is about teaching what’s behind such magic. To put it in a more positive way, “the end of magic” for the creator really means “the power to create magic to the eyes of others while understanding the entire process”.
Pretty cool, huh? =)
