Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Illustrator CS2

Align to Object

By default, when using the Align Palette objects are aligned based on the average path. But there’s more that can be done in order to gain more control over how objects get positioned.

One method is to align objects based on the position of one object, which we can refer to as the align to object method.

In order to make this method work, first select all objects that you want to move plus the object to be used as a reference.

Then, without pressing any keys on the keyboard, click on the reference object. Although there are no indicators that something has happened except for the click, Illustrator will see the clicked object as the reference for moving the others around according to the command selected in the Align Palette.

And that’s pretty much all there’s to it.

Of course there are other methods that can be used with the Align Palette, but those will be revealed in another lesson.
