Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)
Illustrator CS2
Changing the Artboard color

Illustrator’s default Artboard color is white and, although this works well in many cases, there are times that it just won’t do it.
For such times there is fortunately a way of changing the Artboard color. Unfortunately, however, there’s no way that I’m aware of that will allow a permanent change (even modifying the Startup files won’t keep the color settings), meaning that you’ll have to follow this procedure for every document where white won’t work.
With the desired document open, go to File » Document Setup. Click on the drop-down menu (where it reads “Artboard”) and choose Transparency.

Now change both grid colors to the color of your choice. Click OK to close the Document Setup.

If the new color doesn’t show up, hit Shift + Ctrl + D or go to View » Show Transparency Grid.
