Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Gradient Following a Path

Here’s a simple trick to make a gradient follow a path:
Create a circle, set a fill color (the first color of the gradient) and remove the stroke.
Hit Ctrl + Shift + M to open the Move dialogue.
Set the horizontal distance to 150 px and the vertical to 0. Then click on the Copy button.

Change the fill of the new circle to a color that will match the first one when combined into a gradient.
Double-click on the Blend Tool and set it to Smooth Color. Then click on the first circle and then on the second one to create the gradient.

Open the Brushes Palette and click on the New Brush button.

Choose New Art Brush as the brush type. You can leave the default settings on the Art Brush Options dialogue.

You can always change the settings later if you want to.
You can delete the gradient created on the artboard, as it is now stored as a brush.
Now all you have to do is apply this brush to a path.
