TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Multiple Strokes

Although the default settings for an object is just one fill and one stroke, you can easily change this amount by using the Appearance Palette.
The following example uses 3 strokes:

And here’s how it was done:
I created a square with a fill and a stroke color and then changed the stroke weight to 10 pt and set the align field to inside.

On the Appearance Palette, I clicked on the Palette menu button (the little black arrow on the top right corner) and selected the Add New Stroke option.

With the new stroke selected on the Appearance Palette, I changed the color and the alignment (outside the path).

I then added a third stroke and aligned it to the center of the path and changed the weight to 5 pt.
Finally, I selected the Fill in the Appearance Palette and added yet another stroke. Because this stroke appears behind the others, I increased the weight to 20 pt.
And here’s how my Appearance Palette looked like:

And again, the multiple stroked square:
