Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Turning a Regular Font into Oblique

Keep in mind that Oblique and Italic types are not the same thing! Check out Wikipedia: Oblique type for more information.

First of all, create your text.

Then select the text box with the Selection Tool, right-click and choose Transform – Shear or go to Object – Transform – Shear.
Settings » shear angle = 20° (or lower), horizontal axis checked.

The Shear effect is applied to the text box. If you want to change just one character or a group of characters you must convert the text to outlines first.

Now you can either choose to leave the text like this (which is the quick and easy-to-do method) or you can go one step forward and tweak the characters so that you get rid of weird curve distortions and correct the distance between them.
