Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Adjustment Layers
Adjustment Layers are a great way to correct your photos.
Although they provide the same effects found on the Colors menu, they are easier to manipulate: they don’t interfere directly on the original image (the modifications are on a separate layer), you can edit them at any time, you can modify their blend mode and their opacity, and they can be deleted without interfering with the original image.
The Adjustment Layers available are the following: Brightness/Contrast, Channel Mixer, Color Balance, Curves, Hue/ Saturation/Lightness, Invert, Levels, Posterize, Threshold.
Below are examples of what each of these layers can do:

original image

brightness/contrast

channel mixer

color balance: midtones, shadows, highlights

curves

hue/saturation/lightness

invert

levels

posterize

threshold
To edit any of the Adjustment Layers you might have added to your image, open the Layer Palette and double-click on the desired adjustment layer.
A dialog box will appear will all available options.
The only Adjustment Layer that doesn’t have any editable information is Invert.
Now that you’ve seen what each Adjustment Layer can do, go ahead and mix them up to get some great results.
Here’s what I did with my angel using just the Hue/Saturation/Lightness and Brightness/Contrast layers:
