Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Fuchsia

Create a new image.
» Settings: any size you wish, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.

Add a new vector layer. Name it vector01.
You can delete Layer1.

Set the foreground to null and background color to pink.
» My color: #EB41A5.

With the Draw tool, make the following shape.
» Settings: type = point to point line, line style = #1 solid, antialias + create as vector + close path checked.

Add a new vector layer. Name it vector02.
Move under the vector01 layer.

Create the back petals for the flower using the same tool and color and color as before.

Add a new vector layer. Name it vector03.
Move it under the vector02 layer.

Change your color’s lightness to 50 and draw the following shape:

Add a new vector layer. Name it vector04.
Move it under the vector03 layer.

Change your color’s lightness to 100.
Click on the black arrows between the foreground and background boxes to switch the background color to foreground.

With the Draw tool using either point to point line or single line with width = 2 make several lines coming out of the dark area of the flower.

When you are pleased with all the shapes, convert each layer to raster.

Make the vector02 layer active.

With the Retouch tool, burn the bottom area of the petals.
» Settings: Burn, shape = round, size = 25, hardness = 0, opacity = 25, step = 25, density = 100.

Make the vector04 layer active.

Use the Retouch tool on the Burn mode on several random areas of the lines.
Change the mode to Dodge and, using the same settings as before, pass it again on several random areas of the lines.

Make the vector03 layer active.

Change the Retouch tool back to the Burn mode and change the opacity to 5.
Pass it on the top area of the shape and a little bit on the sides.

Make the vector01 layer active.

Change the Retouch tool size to 50 and pass it on the edges of the entire shape.

Change the Retouch tool mode to Dodge, size = 50 and opacity = 5.
Pass it on the middle areas and a little bit on top of where you used the Burn mode.

Change the Retouch tool mode back to Burn and size to 25.
Pass it on the middle part of the flower (round area) as shown below:

Change the Retouch tool to Lightness Down and pass it on the round area above the one you’ve just worked on.
Also use the tool slightly on the thin area right above it.
» Settings: Lightness Down, shape = round, size = 50, hardness = 0, opacity = 50, step = 25, density = 100.

Change the size to 3 and opacity to 8 and make the following lines coming out of the dark area you’ve just created:
