Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Glass Orb

Create a new image.
» Settings: 200×200 pixels, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.
With the Selection tool, create a circle starting at 100,100 and ending at 170,170.
» Settings: selection type = circle, feather = 0, antialias = checked.
Note: the coordinates are located at the bottom left corner of your workspace.
Set the foreground color to white and the background to any color you wish (works better with a dark color).
Change the foreground to gradient.
Click on it to open the Gradient options box.
» Settings: style = sunburst, horizontal = 50, vertical = 75, repeats = 0.
Flood Fill the selection with the gradient.
Go to Selections – Float.
Effects – 3D Effects – Cutout.
» Settings: vertical + horizontal = 0, opacity + blur = 50, color = black, fill interior with color = unchecked.
Deselect.
Duplicate this layer and change the blend mode to Multiply.
Add a new raster layer.
With the Selection tool create another circle starting at 100,85 and ending at 150,135.
Change the background color to black.
Click on the gradient to open the Gradient options box again.
» Settings: style = linear, angle + repeats = 0, invert gradient = checked.
Flood Fill the new selection and change this layer’s blend mode to Screen.
Deselect.
