Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.
Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Image Filled Text

There are several ways of creating this effect (selections, masks, layers, etc.). The following method uses vectors in order to give each letter a different image.
Create a new image.
» Settings: any size you wish, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.
Enter the desired text.
» Settings: vector = checked, antialias = checked. Use the other settings as you wish.
Go to Objects – Convert Text to Curves – As Characters Shapes.
Open the images you want to use as fill.
Put them aside and make the canvas with the text active again.
Note: if the images are too large you might have to decrease their size, otherwise very little detail will be visible on the letters. On the other hand, if the image is smaller than the letter it will get repeated since it will be used as a pattern; in this case either choose a larger image or convert this into a seamless tile.
With the Object Selector tool, click on one of the letters.
Note: in case all letters are selected, deselect them all first (hit Ctrl + D) and then select just the desired letter.
Right-click with the Object Selector tool and choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
Change the Fill style to pattern. Click on the box in order to open the pattern options box; select the desired image and modify the scale and angle if you wish.
Follow the same steps for the other letters.
