Closed (sort of)
TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.
There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Quick 3D Sphere

Create a new image.
» Settings: 300×300 pixels, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.
With the Selection tool, create a circle on the middle of the canvas.
» Settings: selection type = circle, feather = 0, antialias = checked.
Flood Fill the selection with any color you wish.
Keep selected and add a new raster layer.
Set the foreground color to white and background color to black.
Now change the foreground to gradient.
» Settings: #1 Foreground-Background, style = sunburst, horizontal = 70, vertical = 30, repeats = 0, invert gradient = unchecked.
Flood Fill the selection with the gradient.
Change this layer’s blend mode to Luminance.
Merge the visible layers and apply a Drop Shadow effect.
» Settings: vertical = 5, horizontal = -5, opacity = 50, blur = 25, color = black.
