Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Shiny Button

Create a new image.
» Settings: 300×300 pixels, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.

With the Selection tool, create a rounded rectangle (any size you wish).
» Settings: selection type = rounded rectangle, feather = 0, antialias = checked.

Set the foreground color to white and background color to grey.

Change the foreground to gradient and click on it to open the Gradient Options box.
» Settings: #1 Foreground-Background, style = linear, angle / repeats = 0, invert gradient = unchecked.

Flood Fill the selection with the gradient.

Go to Selections – Float.

Apply a Cutout effect.
» Settings: vertical + horizontal = 0, opacity = 100, blur = 3, color = black, fill interior = unchecked.

Contract the selection by 3 pixels.

With the Selection tool, create a new rectangle to remove the bottom part of the contracted selection (press Ctrl while creating the rectangle).

Change the gradient to #2 Fading Background using the same settings as before except that now check invert gradient.

Flood Fill the new selection with it, deselect and your button is ready.
