Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

Shiny Circle

Create a new image.
» Settings: 300×300 pixels, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.

With the Selection tool, make a circle any size you wish, starting in the middle of the canvas (150,150).
» Settings: selection type = circle, feather = 0, antialias = checked.

Note: the coordinates are located at the bottom left corner of your workspace.

Set the foreground color to white and background color to grey.

Change the foreground color to gradient then click on it to open the Gradient Options box.
» Settings: #1 Foreground-Background, style = linear, angle + repeats = 0, invert gradient = unchecked.

Flood Fill the selection with the gradient.

Go to Selections – Float.

Apply a Cutout effect.
» Settings: vertical + horizontal = 0, opacity = 100, blur = 3.

Contract the selection by 3 pixels.

Now, holding down the Ctrl key, make a new circle starting at the bottom of the current selection to remove the bottom part.

Change the gradient to #2 Fading Foreground and check invert gradient.

Flood Fill the new selection with the gradient, deselect and your shiny circle is ready.
