TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

Simple Wood

Updated on June 29, 2004 for seamless pattern.

Create a new image.
» Settings: 400×400 pixels, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.

Flood Fill the canvas with brown.
» My color: #B97C41.

Go to Effects – Noise – Add.
» Settings: noise = 100%, uniform = checked.

Go to Effects – Geometric Effects – Wind.
» Settings: strength = 20, from left = checked.

Double-click on the Crop tool.
» Settings: left = 100, right = 400, top = 100, bottom = 400, custom size and position checked.

Press Shift + R to crop.

View the Hue and Saturation of the color you used for flood filling the canvas and go to Colors – Colorize. Enter the hue and saturation values.
» My values: hue = 21, saturation = 122.

Apply the Unsharp Mask effect.
» Settings: radius = 5, strength = 150, clipping = 0.

Double-click on the Selection tool.
» Settings: left = 50, right = 250, top = 50, bottom = 250.

Go to Selections – Convert to Seamless Pattern.

Set this image as a pattern and your wood texture is ready.

Note: to set an image as a pattern all you have to do is save it as a .bmp file and place it inside PSP’s Patterns folder.
