Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Zodiac Wheel

Create a new image.
» Settings: 400×400 pixels, 72 dpi, background color = transparent, image type = 16.7 million colors.

Set the foreground color to black and background to null.

Add a new vector layer, name it Circle.
Delete Layer 1.

With the Preset Shapes tool, create a circle starting at 5,5 and ending at 395,395.
» Settings: ellipse, retain style = unchecked, antialias + create as vector = checked, line width = 2, line style = #1 solid.

Note I: the coordinates are located at the bottom left corner of your workspace.

Note II: To make a circle using the Preset Shapes tool simply hold down the Shift key when using the Ellipse shape.

Duplicate the Circle layer twice.

Resize the first copy to 65% and the second copy to 50%.
» Settings: reize all layers = unchecked, maintain aspect ratio = checked.

Go to Layers – Merge visible (this will automatically convert the vector shapes to raster).
Rename the Merged layer to Circles.

Add a new raster layer, name it Line.

With the Draw tool, make a line starting at 5,200 and ending at 200,395.
» Settings: type = single line, width = 2, line style = #1 solid, antialias = checked, create as vector + close path = unchecked.

Duplicate the Line layer 5 times.

Starting from the first duplicate, Image – Rotate: 90° / 30° / 60° / 120° / 150°. Make sure all layers is unchecked; the direction makes no difference.

Hide the Circles layer and Merge Visible. Rename the Merged layer to Lines.

Make the Circles layer active.

With the Magic Wand, click inside the smaller circle.
» Settings: match mode = RGB value, tolerance = 0, feather = 0, sample merged = unchecked.

Make the Lines layer active.

Go to Selections – Modify – Expand by 1.
Hit delete and deselect.

Again merge the visible layers.
Rename the Merged layer to Wheel.

Add a new vector layer, name it Textcircle.

With the Preset Shapes create another circle starting at 60,60 and ending at 340,340.

Add a new raster layer, name it Text.

With the Text tool, go near the vector circle until the mouse pointer turns into an A and enter the following text: i h g f e d c b a ` _ , without leaving any spaces between the i and the .
» Settings: stroke = null, fill = black, font = WingDings, size = 28, bold, centralized, kerning = -25, leading = -10, floating, antialias = checked.

Hide this layer and Merge Visible.
Again rename the Merged layer to Wheel.

Make the Text layer visible again.

Make the Wheel layer active.

With the Magic Wand, select the middle blocks (the ones before the symbols, created when the last vector circle was added).
Press Shift to add each block to the selection.

Add a new raster layer, name it MiddleB.

Expand the selection by 1 and Flood Fill it with the Stained Wood pattern (PSP’s default).

Go to Colors – Adjust – Brightness/Contrast.
» Settings: brightness = -50, contrast = 15%.
Deselect.

Move this layer under Wheel.

Add a new raster layer, name it Wood.
Move it under the MiddleB layer.

Flood Fill it with the same pattern.

Make the Wheel layer active and click inside the smaller circle with the Magic Wand and, pressing Shift, click outside the Wheel.
Expand this selection by 1 and go back to the Wood layer.
Hit delete and deselect.

Apply Paint Engine on the Wood layer using the Bloom preset.

Again change the Brightness/Contrast.
» Settings: brightness = -25, contrast = 15%.

Make the Wheel layer active again.

Click inside the smaller circle with the Magic Wand and expand the selection by 5.

Add a new raster layer, name it Gem.

Set two colors for your foreground and background, according to your zodiac sign:

» FIRE: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius: orange and red
» EARTH: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn: light and dark brown
» AIR: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius: white and light grey
» WATER: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces: light and dark blue

Apply MuRa’s Cloud, using light = white, foreground and background = the colors you chose for your gem, default preset, source base unchecked.

Now apply Ulead’s Particle: first, click on the Load button to choose the preset Bubbles 5, then click on the bubble on the preview window and change the size to 100, also change the border to 50 and it’s color to white.
Click OK to apply.

Move this layer under Wood.

Make the Text layer active.

Selections – All / Float.

Apply the Cloud filter using the same settings as before.

Apply a Cutout effect.
» Settings: vertical + horizontal = 1, opacity = 25, blur = 2.

Then apply a Drop Shadow effect using these same settings as the Cutout.

Deselect and follow the same steps for the Wheel layer, except for the Cutout, and your zodiac wheel is ready.
