Closed (sort of)

TEOM as you know it has been closed. I will keep it up for reference but it no longer will receive tutorial updates.

There are plans for a completely new site. If you'd like to be notified once the other site is up, simply subscribe to my mailing list.

Thanks for the support throughout all these years :)

Paint Shop Pro X

Change the Default My PSP Files Folder

Paint Shop Pro X creates a folder under My Documents were it stores your custom/downloaded files. The default folder is called My PSP Files and even if you tell PSP that you want to store the files in a different folder it goes ahead and creates the folder (and sub-folders) anyway.

Update (01-16-2007): Version 10.00 can actually keep the folder you’ve defined during installation without any problems. However, when installing the necessary update patches (10.01, 10.02 and 10.03) the My PSP Files folder is created once again, ignoring the original installation settings. In order to avoid having to manually change all the folders modified by the patches in the program’s File Locations, make the registry changes (if that’s the method that you’ll be using) before restarting Paint Shop Pro after the updates are installed.

One way that you can get rid of the folder without messing around with your OS settings is to simply right-click on it and change the attributes to hidden. This way the folder will still exist but at least you won’t see it.

Because I don’t like this hide-and-forget method I suggest that you continue reading to find a definitive, better and “geeky” solution.

But in order to really make the program understand that you don’t want a My PSP Files folder anywhere in your system, you must change the registry.

Update (06-25-2007): You should perform the following registry change before running Paint Shop Pro for the first time. This way it will automatically set the file locations to the new default folder, plus it can automatically create all the sub-folders it will need (i.e., Brushes, Workspaces, etc.) in case they aren’t there yet.

Open the Registry Editor by going to Start » Run » regedit.

Before you make any changes go to File » Export to create a back-up of the registry.

Search for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\Global.

Change PSP10DefaultWrite to the desired path (i.e. D:\Program Files\Paint Shop Pro\).
