Paint Shop Pro X

Changing the Thumbnail Size

I’m not a huge fan of Paint Shop Pro’s Browser Palette, in fact I prefer to view my files with XnView, but since part of my tutorials are for Paint Shop Pro, here’s a tip on how to increase the thumbnail size in the Browser Palette =)

I must say, however, that there are several flaws surrounding the process of adjusting the thumbnail size in the Browser Palette, which is the reason why I’m putting up this tip.

  1. Both search and zoom icons, not only in Paint Shop Pro but in several different applications, use a magnifying glass. The problem here is that while in the menu View the lens of the magnifying glass is on the left, in the Browser Palette it is on the right.
As I have observed on several applications, zoom is always represented with the lens on the left, while search can have the lens either to the right or to the left.
Why am I saying this? Because the first impression of the Zoom Thumbnails is that it is a search field.
  2. There’s also the fact that you can’t set the size of the thumbnails in the program’s preferences. If you can set the size of Browser effect thumbnails, why can’t you set for the Browser Palette as well? It would be nice to have some sort of precision…
  3. The Help file has no reference regarding the change on the thumbnail size in the Browser Palette unless you are going to print the contact sheet.
  4. Is my copy buggy? What’s with the tool tip View browser folders | View folders? Tool tips should be helpful.
  5. How about a cursor change over the magnifying glass to indicate that some sort of action is about to take place?
  6. It would be nice to adjust the quality of the displayed images instead of viewing really jagged large thumbnails.

If you still want to use the Browser Palette (=D), take a look at the video below:

In case you are curious, what appears on the left while I’m dragging the magnifying glass is the beginning of the scrollbar, which wasn’t appearing while I had my thumbnails set to the minimum size.

If you click and drag the magnifying glass to the right, the thumbnail size will increase, and if you drag it to the left, the size will decrease.
